Honor V9 officially announced: QHD display, 6GB RAM, 3D-modeling cameras and more

Right on cue, the Honor V9 has been officially unveiled in China. For fans of higher-end handsets, the new phablet looks nicely stacked, and you can catch all of the key details below. 

For starters, the Honor V9 is armed __with the HiSilicon Kirin 960 processor, which is accompanied by Mali-G71 graphics. Manufactured by honor's parent company Huawei, it's the same octa-core chipset found within the Huawei Mate 9 which,  as we noted in our review, is plenty powerful enough. Also on offer is a choice or 4 or 6 GB of LPDDR4 RAM dependent on configuration, and 64 or 128 GB of expandable storage. 

The display is a 5.7-inch TFT LCD effort boasting a QHD (1440 x 2560) resolution. Also adorning the front of the device is an 8-megapixel selfie camera, while the dual 12-megapixel main shooters tout f /2.2 aperture and dual-LED flash. Indeed, the rear camera ensemble sounds rather fanciful, and notably includes a laser focus feature enabling 3D modeling. Honor touts the V9 as the world's first 3D modeling smartphone, and offering users a chance to 3D-print stuff they've captured could be a very interesting selling point. __with companies now venturing further left-field with quirky features to entice consumers, though, we'll reserve our excitement until we've seen the V9's 3D capabilities firsthand. 

3D modeling camera: because modular smartphones are just sooo 2016

The Honor V9 gets a sizable 4000 mAh battery, which is the same capacity as the Mate 9's juice pack. We managed to get 12 hours' non-stop usage out of the Mate 9 in our battery benchmarks, which saw it  comfortably outlast the iPhone 7 Plus and Galaxy S7 edge. While the Honor V9's QHD resolution display is likely to eke away battery at a quicker rate than the FHD Mate 9, their comparable specs and Huawei association should ensure that the Honor V9 gets a decent innings. 

Clearing up some of the smaller matters, the dual-SIM device includes a fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C and of course, LTE. Measuring in at 157 x 77.5 x 6.97 mm and weighing 184 grams, the Honor V9 ships with Huawei's EMUI 5.0 atop the Android 7.0 Nougat firmware.

There's a 4 GB RAM / 64 GB ROM model for 2599 Yuan ($377), a 6 GB / 64 GB variant at 2999 Yuan ($436), and a top-tier 6 GB / 128 GB version for 3499 Yuan ($508). Available in Gold, Red, Black and Blue, the Honor V9 hits the retail market (in China) on February 28 at 10:00 AM.
