Samsung files patent application for a device sporting a hinged flexible screen

Amid rumors that it will be introducing a foldable smartphone in the third quarter this year, Samsung has filed a patent application __with the USPTO for an "electronic device __with flexible display." While Samsung has received other patents for foldable or flexible displays, this one uses a hinge to help the device unfold. The application was filed by Samsung on June 9, 2015 under the patent number US 9,557,771 B2.

Not much is known about the foldable devices that Samsung and LG are planning to introduce in the third quarter of this year. Samsung's device is believed to have two screens that fold outward, turning a smartphone into a tablet and vice versa. The screens on LG's device reportedly fold in. Last month, LG received a patent for a foldable smartphone of its own .
